1912-1914
“The Founding”
1912 – Several Clarksburg citizens established a club which would offer golf, tennis and swimming.
1913 – Clubhouse was constructed & tennis courts added.
1914 – Pool was built.
1932
Fire
After a fire damaged the clubhouse, it was renovated and enlarged. Pool was replaced at a cost of $3,500.
World War II to 1954
A New Clubhouse
During WW II – The membership declined to around 30 members and the property where the current back nine is located became the largest war coal reserve in WV.
After WW II – The club began to add members at such a fast rate; a new clubhouse was erected around the existing clubhouse.
1954 – Two new tennis courts were added with a hard surface.
1961
From 9 to 18 Holes
Property was acquired across the West Fork River and the back nine was constructed creating an 18 hole par 68 which played 5,500 yards.
1966
“Snead Captures West Va. Crown” – NY Times
Setting a new course record in his Final Round with a 61 on the par 68 layout, Sam Snead wins his 10th West Virginia Professional Golfers Association Championship.
The course record of 59 was later shot by Clarksburg’s own Jimmy Rogers and will forever stand on the old course layout.
1980
Modern Clubhouse
The old clubhouse was destroyed by fire in 1980 ending 65 years of continuous use. A modern clubhouse was constructed.
1994
Bigger Pool
The swimming pool was enlarged 4 1/2 times the original size.
2000
Two New Holes
The original holes #2 (par 3) and #3 (par 4) were converted to a practice facility and driving range. Two new holes were built (a par 4 and par 5) on the “back side” increasing par from 68 to 70.
2012
Centennial Celebration
To honor 100 years of being a club, 2012 was filled with celebration. An old-time golf tournament was held, croquet in the side yard and period attire came back into style.
